Discursive representations of October 12 in the newspaper La Gaceta de Tucumán (Argentina): methodological proposal

Abstract

This work aims to present a methodological proposal to study the social and discursive representations of the anniversary of October 12 in the newspaper La Gaceta (LG) of Tucumán-Argentina. The ways in which people symbolize the world based on the linguistic system allow us to understand how, through the press, certain dominant spheres seek to coapt and shape ideologies. Likewise, anniversaries are one of the key devices of social life that weave together institutions, memories, discourses and subjects, and, therefore, they condition what is thinkable, what is sayable and what is visible. The sample is made up of news regarding the commemoration of October 12 published in the newspaper from its foundation (1917) to the present (2022); More than one hundred years allow us to understand the ups and downs of the representations of the anniversary in connection with the discursive order.

After reviewing some methodological proposals from the main references who study the topic, the path that will guide the research is specified taking into account the objectives and characteristics of the object. Each of the decisions made for the design of the study - the completion of the field work, the survey and constitution of the corpus, the analysis and interpretation of the data, its validation and triangulation - and the process of writing and disseminating the results They aspire to clarify the links between social and discursive representations, identity configurations and social structures. Likewise, it seeks to contribute to the study of discourses on memories within the framework of the written press.
