The present research aims to explore the evolution of the elements and principles of art in modest fashion design in Malaysia, under the influence of the religious and political regime, analyzing the collections of the Mimpikita fashion house between 2015 and 2020. The approach to the problem is based on the lack of visibility and recognition of modest fashion, which is why it seeks to study its evolution based on the analysis of outfits from different years.
The methodology consists of a comparative analysis of three outfits from the Mimpikita collections from the years 2015, 2017 and 2020, focusing on the changes in the ele- ments of shape, color, texture and the principles of composi- tion, balance and movement.
The results show a clear evolution in these elements and principles, with outfits that went from being monochro- matic and loose in 2015 to incorporating bold prints and body-hugging silhouettes in 2020. It is concluded that modest fashion in Malaysia has evolved significantly in just 5 years, adopting a more daring aesthetic but without losing its es- sence. This is attributed to political-religious changes that gave more freedom to Muslim women. The importance of making this style visible and promoting its inclusion and inte- gration in the fashion industry is highlighted.
