Abstract

According to data from YoutTube’s site, it currently has over 51 million channels with a huge variety of themes and content, from which some tackle experimental science. The videos’ consumption raised during the COVID 19’s pandemic, which led to proposing the objective of describing the consumption and reception of scientific information through Youtube of children from 5° and 6° grade from public schools in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas in 2021. For that purpose, a survey was created and applied to a total of 496 children between the ages of 10 and 12, the former was designed to be applied via “Forms” due to confinement. It was found that 83.1% of the surveyed children had an interest in science and the 90.5% use YouTube as a social network of reference. However, only 47.6% mentioned watching channels where scientific infor- mation was given, which is to say, less than half of the infants interact with scientific content through this social network, which takes to the conclusion that they are in contact with another type of content. Finally, science helps to solve every- day problems and stimulates the children’s curiosity to experi- ment how the appropriation of scientific knowledge could help them gain interest in it, so it would be wise to use the videos from this platform as a complement to school education.
