Abstract

This paper presents the results of the research that aims to analyze the representation
of diversity and social rejection towards the character of Estella in the film Cruella de
Vil, directed by Craig Gillespie in 2021. The representations consist of meanings in
common, since we need codes that relate our concepts, because each individual has a different interpretation. The paradigm to use is symbolic interactionism,
which is understood as a perspective constructed
through ideas about what social life should be like and how
to belong to it. The methodological design of the research
is qualitative and the data collection technique is discourse
analysis to recognize the multiple interpretations that arise
from a piece of data. The selected sample consists of 21
scenes where diversity and rejection towards the protagonist
are detected.
